Our story

We make Creating Space in Whitefish, Montana, a small town up the road from Glacier.

People call this Big Sky Country and it earns the name. On a clear night you can walk out past the porch light, stand still for a minute while your eyes catch up, and the whole thing opens over you. Not a few stars. Thousands of them. The Milky Way laid straight across the middle like somebody spilled it.

Everybody goes quiet the first time.

Here is the part that stays with us, though. That sky is not rare and it is not far away. It is up there tonight, over your house too, whether you are standing under it or not. It was there all last week while you were somewhere else. The only real question is whether anyone looks up.

That is close to the whole idea behind this app.

What we are trying to do

Nobody decides to give an evening away. It just goes. Ten minutes waiting on coffee, a few more in a line somewhere, a little bit before bed that turns into an hour. None of it feels like much while it is happening, and then it is Sunday night and you are not quite sure where the week went.

We are not here to tell you that is a moral failing, because it isn’t. Those apps are made by very smart people who are very good at their jobs, and losing an hour to them says nothing about your character.

But you get one life and it is happening at exactly the speed it is happening. The dinner where nobody reaches for a phone. The hike you actually finish. An hour with a guitar, or a kid, or a book, or nothing at all. Everybody already knows what theirs are.

Creating Space exists to hold the door open on those. You decide what matters and when, and the app keeps everything else out of the way while you go and live it.

Why there is a sky in it

We could have built a chart. Charts are easy, and it would have been the wrong thing.

Time you take back from a screen ought to turn into something you would want to look at. So every day you follow through, a star lights. Keep going and the stars find each other and become constellations, real ones with real names, the same shapes that hang over this valley in February. Keep going longer and there are planets out there, and nebulae, and whole galaxies still waiting.

It is not an astronomy app. It is a way of turning a hundred small decisions that would otherwise leave no trace into something quiet and worth coming back to.

A few things we decided early

We did not want to know anything about you. There is no account and nothing to sign up for. Your progress lives on your own phone and in your own iCloud, which means it belongs to you and nobody here can read it. It also means we cannot get it back for you if it goes, and we made our peace with that trade a long time ago.

We cannot see which apps you picked. Your phone keeps that from us on purpose. We like it that way, even on the days it makes helping you harder.

Nothing in the app is watching you. We do not know how many sessions you have run, or how long you spent anywhere, or how many people have read this page.

Your record stays honest. A day you missed stays missed. A sky you cannot trust is just a screensaver.

Come and say hello

We are a small operation in a small town. There is no support department to be routed through, and no queue. Write to us through the support form and one of us reads it.

And if Creating Space ever hands you back an evening, we would genuinely love to hear what you did with it.
